The upcoming debate in the Senate on Healthcare will expose the fact that patient rights will be restricted and people who can’t afford to buy health insurance or deem it wasteful because they are healthy will be fined. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to try to fix healthcare with more rules and regulations that create a larger costly bureaucracy in Washington. Having electronic health records is key to reducing healthcare costs. Payer systems will become more competitive and less costly.

Dear Senator

When can we expect some one in Congress to be out spoken and speak the truth about healthcare.

We can’t fix healthcare through more regulations. Eliminate existing barriers to accurate health information and get out of the way. The free enterprise system will bring down healthcare costs if state barriers to uniform health history and patient profile information are eliminated.

There should be one standardized electronic reporting system for medical history, patient profile and mortality statistics that all interested parties both public and private medical entities should use to manage patient care. It has to be federally mandated.

A sensible approach that preserves freedom of choice.

• One standardized computerized medical record keeping system.
  
• Improve nutritional guidelines for healthy food consumption…reduce sugar, fat and salt in American diet.
  
• Follow November 23, Business Weeks 10 point plan that can be accomplished without more regulation to reduce healthcare costs. Potential savings $700 billion dollars.

• Crack down on fraud and abuse
  
• Develop a healthy workforce
  
• Coordinate care through family doctors
  
• Make health a community effort
  
• Stop infections in hospitals
  
• Get patients to take their medicine
  
• Discuss options near end of life
  
• Use insurance to manage chronic disease
  
• Let well-informed patients decide.
